NCLEX PN vs NCLEX RN - What's the Difference |
The National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) has two separate exams: one for a candidate who has studied to become a registered nurse - NCLEX RN Exam, and the other for a candidate who has studied to become a licensed practical nurse - NCLEX PN Exam. Both tests were developed by healthcare professionals to determine whether the candidates possess the basic knowledge required to practice that specific type of nursing. Both tests are taken via computer, and both tests contain multiple-choice questions. There are actually three primary ways the two tests are different. First, NCLEX-RN exams contain 85 basic questions, and a total of 265 potential questions you could be asked. NCLEX-PN exams have fewer questions to answer: 75 basic questions, and 205 total potential questions. The last primary difference between the NCLEX RN and the NCLEX-PN relates to the differences in the jobs. While some students find that the NCLEX-PN is less difficult than the NCLEX-RN, it all comes down to NCLEX preparation. |

What is the role of NSCBN |
The National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) is a not-for-profit organization whose purpose is to provide an organization through which boards of nursing act and counsel together on matters of common interest and concern affecting the public health, safety and welfare, including the development of licensing examinations in nursing. To ensure public protection, NCSBN Member Board jurisdictions require a candidate for licensure to pass a nursing examination that measures the competencies needed to perform safely and effectively as a newly licensed, entry-level nurse. NCSBN develops two licensure examinations, the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) and the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses (NCLEX-PN), that are used by boards of nursing to assist in making licensure decisions. |
