The Exam

The Exam

Who?

Nurses desiring professional licensure in the field of nursing.

What?

The NCLEX tests are created by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN). Both the NCLEX-RN and NCLEX-LPN/LVN cover a lot of overlapping material; however, the scoring and number of questions vary between the exams.

When?

You may schedule the exam once you have filed an application for licensure (forms and fees) and have received a scheduling permit from the board staff. For scheduling, Pearson VUE may be contacted at (1-312)-525-3600.

Where?

NCSBN has contracted with Pearson VUE to develop test material and provide testing sites.

Why?

The NCLEX is a test designed by the NCSBN to protect the public by ensuring that each candidate has the knowledge and skills to perform safely as a new nurse. Consequently, the questions focus on decision-making in various patient care scenarios under critical conditions. The NCLEX test requires that you understand the basic principles of nursing and apply them to different elements of patient safety management.
